...

Well, it's pretty obvious I haven't blogged for a LONG time. I don't see myself blogging in future at this stage, particularly since I've pretty much 'retired' from the raving scene... but who knows :)

Thanks for dropping by anyways!

Long time no see...

5 May 2005: Dinner at Breeze, Crown Towers

Well talk about catching up with old friends!

It has been a long time since I have caught up with friends from my Deakin University days, more particularly with the volunteers in DUISS (Deakin University International Students Services).

Angela organised a 'surprise' dinner for Eddie who is a steward with Cathay Pacific and was in Melbourne for a short while. In addition to catching up with Eddie, there was Julia, Alfani, Pauline, Kelvin, Irwan, Gareth and Angela.

I haven't been in contact with these friends for a long time. Ever since graduating from uni and work life, friends tend to drift apart. More so when not in constant contact with each other in an environment like uni.

PHD

PHD 30 May 2005

What has become an almost weekly ritual every Saturday is PHD. For those that aren't aware of what PHD is, it stands for Pure Hard Dance. Saturday morning starts at 7.30am winding down to around 3.00pm. For some it's strange 'clubbing' during daylight hours... for others it has become the norm! The likes of Otek, Soul T, Andy Golden are just a few of the DJs that spin the vinyl in this fine establishment.

Here's a couple of pics:

Two Tribes 2005

13 March 2005: Two Tribes @ Tennis Centre-Rod Laver & Vodafone Arena

Myself, Caecilia and Linda turned up around 10.30ish thinking that we were early. We saw a line stretching from the main entrance all the way to Swan St and down Swan St towards Richmond Station.

We were like "...is that the line? no way... it couldn't be... maybe it's for buying tickets? that long? yah maybe... oh hang on... nup... that's the line to get in! Hmmm let's go up the front and see what's happening... Brad's somewhere here isn't he? or is he inside? oh look... they opened up a new line.. what..? for industry and VIP passes... oh hey! that's us! Sweet!!!"

We were mainly in Godskitchen room (Vodafone Arena). Everywhere was PACKED. I remember coming out to refill the water bottle and saw the line to get back in and I was like whoa.. no way... and queue jumped right up the front. Just so happened a couple of my other friends were there so it worked out great :)

Anyways, Two tribes was ok... not what it used to be. Perhaps I am living in the past, and this is the new change and next evolution of raves. My Two Tribes review:

  • Commercialised.
  • Crowded.
  • Subdued.
  • Occassional flashes of brilliance.
  • Dampened by mediocrity.
  • Lack of Inspiration.
Was it just me? *ponder*

Perhaps my preconceptions and expectations were set at too high a bar, that the actual reality was in fact much lower? Despite this my urge and need for some good shuffling was not stifled.

I still enjoyed myself, surrounded by my friends (Caecilia, Linda, Brad, Ben, Steven not to mention Tammy, Eva, Amanda, Luke, Tat Ghee, Lee Ling, Lawrence and others) when they were around and down to earth... =P

Shoutouts to all my other friends who I bumped into on the dance floor! Jian, Mui Ping, Iris, Elaine, Charlene, Zoul and numerous other new people I was introduced to, but forgot your names! :)

"Funny" Memorable Moments:

  • Linda stabbing herself repeatedly in the mouth with her the remnants of her chewed up, mangled chuppa chup stick (cherry flavoured i believe);
  • Caecilia chewing off a bit of her tongue whilst chewing her gum... chewing gum that is... uhhh get it...? hehhee;
  • Tammy's shocked expression when she found out I was clean;
  • The usual 'muscle' dance by steriod-pumping, love-myself, topless guys;
  • The usual assortment of weird people assuming I'm wheelin' n dealin';

Hmmm feel free to post in my comments any other funny moments! :)

I'll post up some photos shortly :)

Pharmacy

Yup, yet another late posting :)

11 February 2005: Pharmacy @ Metro
Headed to Pharmacy at Metro and met Brad, Ben and Steven there around 1.00am.
There were more people coming out then there were people going in! Guess we were early :)

Cosmic Gate were good, ASYS was even better. Din like the venue that much, but oh well, a rave is a rave is a rave! Hehe.

Highlight of the night was watching some dude popping a pill in front of a security guard who was on some power trip. Needless to say he got turfed, and his posse accompanied him out. Then some other security guy (way cooler than the power tripper) asked me if that guy was a friend and I said nup. He even told me that the power tripper was a bit of a party pooper, this cool security guard was telling me that everyone takes at raves, so just let it be. hehe.

Anyways I don't care... I'm clean :)

All in all a good night :)

Merry Belated Christmas and Happy New Year!

Well, it has been so long since I've blogged I think I've forgotten how, and more importantly what has happened since then! (yes, yes i blame the alcohol!). People have gone back home, some for good, some for holidays.

Someone told me to update, so here I am! Hehe you know who you are! :)

Happy New Year Everyone! Love you all (some more than most ;) hehehe)

Anyways I'll just do some highlights in the last month or so:

10 December 2004: Street Shuffle #2
Dan and I were heading into the city for the Street Shuffle, when Caecelia called up. To the background noise of thumping bass she said 'Listen to this!'. I was like 'Yah? So? Good stuff right?' and she said "But... but... it's out on the street!". I said "Yah I know. Dan and I are going there right now. It's a street shuffle!" and she said "Serious?? I was trying to get you jealous!"
Lol... nice one CC!

Anyways when we got there, I couldn't believe the size of the crowd that had already gathered. There were people in phatties everywhere! The Shuffling DVD people were there again, filming everything and as an extra, they got Hayden to interview people about raving. I was the first guinea pig so bear that in mind if they ever put me in it! :p

Great atmosphere, Good music, Fantastic people, Awesome fun!

Highlight of the night would have to go to the guy who jumped on top of the advertising trailer for random drug testing and started raving!!! Hehehe.

26 December 2004: Hard Kandy @ Billboard
The most anticipated and talked about event for weeks! I must say, that Billboards was and always will be the best place for Hard Kandy. Apparently 1000 tickets were pre-sold. So I turned up with Caecelia (who's friend had a ticket for her) extra early on Hayden's advice so that I could buy a ticket at the door. There was already a line stretching to the traffic light at 11.00pm!

There were boring moments (for me), but the moments of brilliance and energy were when the tracks were hard and fast! Hardcore stuff! Goooooooood sheeeeeeeeeet!!!! :) Hehehe.

At about 3.30 I spotted a familiar face in the crowd - Dan (who has retired from raving so he says and wasn't going tonight) has turned up... all by himself! Apparently he was waiting outside for 2 hours before they let anybody else in! He was at the end of the line as well! It was all justified though, as we looked at each other and said "Gooooood sheeeeeet!!!" and raved to the hardcore stuff.

Been a while since I've raved like that. Out of breath, sweat glistenning, virtually doubled over from the pain of exhaustion! Well worth it!!

31 December 2004: New Years Eve @ Chicane
Shaun had to work until 10.00pm so I collected Sue from home and drove to Caecelia's place. Then Sam, Sue, Caecelia and I walked to the train station. When the train arrived it was PACKED. Everybody looked like sardines in a can. We gave up. Taxi into the city only cost us about $15.00 anyway.

Place was actually dead when we got there which was about 11.00pm. It got more crowded closer to the countdown, and then some time after that (due to alcohol induced memory gap) the place was packed! Think most people were outside looking at fireworks and stuff, then went to clubs. All in all each of us spent around $150.00, which isn't much considering our 'usual' costs around $100.00!! Hehehe.

All in all a good night to say bye to 2004 and welcome 2005!
